January 9 winter walk and open house

ree

'Tis the season for the Lake Links Association’s Annual Winter Walk!

The early evening event starts at 5 p.m. at the Mahtomedi District Education Center on Friday, January 9. The center’s main room will offer hot cider and cookies and a number of ways to learn about the around-the-lake trail and its progress. We are pleased this year to have representatives from the Mahtomedi Garden Club and Mahtomedi Public Works staffing tables to answer your questions and give insights into their current projects. Both have been very involved in the Streetcar Park project.

Our walk along the lighted path from the District Center to Streetcar Park and the covered bridge starts at 5:30 p.m. and will include a short “scavenger hunt” quiz along the way. Crossing Quail to the park, you can get a piece of candy for pushing the Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) to get in the habit of using this very effective safe crossing signal.

At the park, you’ll have a chance to view the decorated covered bridge at its festive best. Streetcar Park volunteers are planning to light the picnic area with luminaria and will be on hand to provide information about their three-year park renovation project. Cutouts of a streetcar will be there so you can take photos of yourself back in time when the park was a hub for streetcar travel.

We’ll be back at the District Center just after 6 p.m. to check scavenger hunt sheets leading up to a short prize drawing. Lake Links Board members and others from the community will be on hand to answer questions until the event ends at 6:30.

Happiest of Holidays to you, and we hope to see you on January 9!
