The construction work where the Lake Links trail crosses Quail Street near the covered bridge in Mahtomedi is now complete with the trail surface restored and a new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) for the crossing.

This crossing is now much safer because of two changes requested by Lake Links and Mahtomedi Area Green Initiative (MAGI) Bike/Ped safety advocates. This crossing is on a curvy section of Quail with limited visibility. There is new 20 mph speed limit here plus the RRFB.
Trail users should push the RRFB buttons to start the flashing lights. For southbound trail users this will alert eastbound drivers much earlier than before to the presence of trail users (since the sight lines from the north side of the crossing are limited). Once you have pushed the button, the lights are flashing, and traffic has stopped, then proceed across the crossing. Maintain eye contact with drivers.
One more step towards the goal of greatly improved safety for all who bike/roll/walk/run around the Lake Links trail.
