2026 Ride Around the Lake

The weather forecast kept us guessing, but in end the morning of Saturday, September 26, turned out to be just about perfect for our annual guided bike ride around White Bear Lake. Not only that, but following the lead set by Lake Links board member Ian Harding last year, participants in this year’s Bike Ride Around White Bear Lake got a special treat as members of the Rotary Club of White Bear Lake shared stories from the history books at three stops along the 10-mile route:

• At Lions Park in White Bear Lake, Rotarian Jim Dwyer told riders about past inhabitants, including a church, a boat builder, and a gangster hangout.

• Rotarians Ken Galloway and Darrell Stone described the introduction of golden retrievers to the United States at Echo Street (formerly known as “Dream Street” in Dellwood.

• At Streetcar Park in Mahtomedi, Rotarian Rich Ramsay shared local lore about the Mahtomedi Chautauqua Assembly and streetcar line that once ran from St. Paul to what is now a jewel along the Lake Links trail with a picnic area, natural playground, and covered bridge.

A big thank you to Rotarian Bob Timmons who coordinated the effort and to all club members who helped make it possible in one way or another. Thanks are due as well to Sara Hanson and others at White Bear Lake Area Historical Society for providing guidance on selecting sites and information to share at each.
