More than 80 people turned out on a sun-splashed Saturday, September 7, for the Lake Links Association’s seventh annual Bike Ride Around White Bear Lake.
The event, which showcases progress along the Lake Links Trail, drew participants of all ages and abilities, from seasoned cyclists in their 90s to tots in tow behind pedaling parents.
It began at the Saputo Station rest stop at Bellaire Beach on the south shore of White Bear Lake. Participants rode in guided groups of 10–20 along the entire 10-mile trail, stopping occasionally to enjoy views of the lake and other scenery along the way. When they arrived at Streetcar Park in Mahtomedi, local resident Cindy Rasmussen shared an overview of the citizen-led effort to transform an invasive-species-infested tangle into a wooded picnic and play area surrounding the Lake Links Trail covered bridge and Depot Creek, a small brook that runs into White Bear Lake.
A huge THANK YOU to the government leaders, community volunteers, and all who have helped and are continuing to help make this decades-long dream a reality. And a very special thanks to the local residents and other trail users who graced us with their patience as they shared their neighborhoods and the Lake Links Trail with those participating this special event.
The annual bike ride celebrates the ongoing Lake Links initiative to provide safe passage for walking, biking, and wheeling in and through villages and towns surrounding White Bear Lake.
