Great news for pedestrians and bicyclists! The Minnesota House of Representatives has drafted a bill that would provide funding for a bike-walk trail connecting the west side of Stillwater to the Brown’s Creek State Trail.
HF 1093, coauthored by Reps. Josiah Hill, Leon Lillie, Patti Anderson, Brion Curran, Mark Wiens, and Elliott Engen, requests $3 million in state funding toward the estimated $8 million project. Proposed by Washington County, the project would add a nonmotorized trail along Highway 5 (Stonebridge Trail), which connects to Owens Street in Stillwater, and extend it to link up to the Brown’s Creek trail. It also would provide a viewing area for a historic bridge along the trail. Construction is expected to begin in 2025.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, City of Stillwater, and Stillwater Township have all expressed support for the project. A big "thank you" to Washington County for leading this initiative and to all whose current and future support will help make it happen!
